New Jersey Identity Theft

Under New Jersey law, theft of identity occurs when someone mpersonates another or assumes a false identity “for the purpose of obtaining a benefit for himself or another or to injure or defraud another.”  The law can be found in New Jersey Stat. § 21-17.
